The National Map (http://nationalmap.nicta.com.au) is software developed by NICTA for the Commonwealth Department of Communications to provide web-based access to Australian spatial data. The software runs in a browser and uses an open architecture to connect  to servers at government agencies for data on land, water, population, tax, telecommunications, etc.
